What's the song that you LOVE but would die if other human beings knew you listened to? For me, that would be "Always Be My Baby" by Mariah Carey. Maybe this wasn't the best choice for me to rock out with late one Friday night when I was whiling away my shift in the piano lab at the University of Louisville.
USUALLY, the piano lab was a desolate fortress of solitude on the weekends, but for some reason, a group of my undergraduate students chose this hour to come practice. I think they walked in somewhere around "Oh, boy you're never gonna shake me..." (In my privacy, I didn't see the need to change the lyrics to fit the appropriate gender.) Needless to say, my students got a big kick out of the performance, and my guilty pleasure was a secret no more.
It wasn't as mortifying as I thought it would be. In fact, it was a little freeing, and I will defend this song henceforth as one of the highlights of the 90's catalogue. In this spirit, I hope you enjoy the following recording!
